Abandoned Edgemere Mansion

ABOUT THE EDGEMERE ESTATE

Back in 2013 abandoned mansions were really not a thing on the Ontario Urban Exploring scene. Someone along the line had learned of this huge abandoned mansion in Oakville that in the process of being demolished.  This home was once the Most Expensive Home in Canada, built in the 1990's by and for Peter Gilgan, the owner of Mattamy Homes.

This huge home had 9 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, a 20 seat home theatre and a games room. The grounds featured a baseball diamond, rock waterfall, swimming pool, gazebo, guest cottage and breathtaking views over Lake Ontario.

Unfortunately in 2007 Gilgan and his wife divorced and this huge mansion went on the market.  A massive auction was held for the contents of the home and property, leaving the home basically an empty shell with staircases, bathtubs and more ripped out and sold.  The home was listed for $45,000,000 - a record price at the time, it was eventually sold to a developer for $35,900,000.  This developer tore down the old house and built a number of condominiums on the property, 30 units priced from $2,700,000 to $6,900,000.

You can learn much more in a story already written and well told by my friend JermIX on his original blog about the Edgemere Estate

For us explorers in 2013, this big empty mansion was a must-see with explorers from all over the province flocking to Oakville to get their chance to explore it.
