Abandoned Church & Homeless Camp

ABOUT THIS ABANDONED CHURCH

I first explored this abandoned church several years ago after passing it by chance while searching for other locations to explore.  Prior to my explore I had never seen photos from the inside, this doesn't mean that I was the first but this was a brand new find for me back then.

At the time the church was in relatively good condition, no vandalism and hardly any signs of decay.  Fast forward to 2020 and there are many signs of water damage and decay setting in all around the building.

In the basement, during my original explore the gym and basketball court were in great condition, today it has been taken over by a number of homeless people who have set up their own little camp and apartments using whatever items they were able to find around the church.  The smell of urine was almost too much for me to handle.

Over the years this has come to be a popular spot amongst local abandoned explorers and after several years of being locked up, it was nice to get back and explore it again.

I found a forum post from 2008 stating that the building had already been empty for some time.

The church dates back to 1924 and if the information I found online is accurate, it was sold in 2014.

In 2011 the city rejected a proposal to rezone the property and build a 7 storey condo on the site of the church parking lot.

This proposal would preserve the church and included it in the renderings for use as recreation facilities and to continue church services.

The proposal was ultimately denied because the proposals lack of sufficient parking, so the owners at the time sold the property and it was apparently bought in 2014 and I can't find anything about the property past this date
